Wind power is one of the fastest-growing alternative energy source. Wind energy(or wind power) describes the process by which wind is used to generate electricity.
The wind is a clean, free, and readily available renewable energy source. Each day, around the world, wind turbines are capturing the wind’s power and converting it into electricity.
This energy plays an increasingly important role in the way we power our world -in a clean, sustainable manner.
How is Wind Energy Created?
Wind turbines allow us to harness the power of the wind and turn it into energy.
When the wind blows, the turbine’s blades spin clockwise, capturing energy.
This triggers the main shaft of the wind turbine, connected to a gearbox within the nacelle, to spin.
The gearbox sends that wind energy to the generator, converting it to the electricity.
Energy then travels to a transformer, where voltage levels are adjusted to match to the grid.
Advantages of Wind Energy
*Wind is cost-effective – As far as upfront costs go, wind farms or individual turbines can be expensive to install. However, once up and running, operation costs are relatively low, their fuel(wind) is free, and the turbines not require to much maintenance over the over the cause of their lifetime.
*Wind power creates jobs- In term of jobs creation the wind energy sector is fastest growing in the world.
*It’s a clean fuel source- It’s a clean fuel and renewable source of energy(Unlike cool, natural gas or oil, generating energy from wind doesn’t result in greenhouse gas emissions. While there are same environmental considerations that come with building large farms, once operational, wind turbines themselves don’t require burning any fossil fuel to operate.
*Wind is a domestic source of energy
Challenges in Wind Power Generation
*Good land-based wind sites are requires which are located in remote locations, far from cities. Transmission lines must to be built to bring the electricity from the wind farm to the city.
*Wind resource development might not be the most possible use of the land.
*Turbine might cause
*Can impact local wildlife
